Dutch wear down stubborn Macedonia 2-1

SKOPJE, Macedonia(AP) John Heitinga and Rafael van der Vaart scored a goal each Wednesday to help the Netherlands beat Macedonia 2-1 in a World Cup qualifying match.

Heitinga headed in a deflected cross from Arjen Robben early in the second half of the Group 9 game at Gradski Stadium.

Van der Vaart found the net in the 59th minute, turning on the ball for a quick strike to convert a pass from Mark van Bommel.
